St Finian’s is a co-educational school which was established in 1975. It was established to serve the population of Finglas South in the parish of Rivermouth. Children at that time were being bussed to schools in Cabra! The school opened its doors on the 7th of January. 87 children were enrolled that day. By the 31st of January the enrolment had risen to 632 pupils. Jim O’Shaughnessy was the first principal. He retired in 2008. Helen Coleman became the next principal until 2017. Our current principal is Maria O’Connell.

Today the school has 19 teachers, 8 SNAs and 2 Childcare workers. Our current enrolment is 241 from Junior infants to Sixth Class. We also have a preschool, Early Start, which can accommodate 30 children. We are under the patronage of the Archdiocese of Dublin.

Our school community aspires to promote self-esteem through open and respectful relationships. We aim to provide a place of nurturing for our children. We aim to enhance the well-being of all our school community, promoting a love of learning in a safe and caring environment.

This school now has high speed broadband connectivity through the Department of Education School Broadband Programme, delivered as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU.
